DistroKid Enables Indie Artists to Upload Videos to Spotify
The service comes via the distribution platform’s DistroVid
DistroKid, the world’s largest distributor of independent music, has announced that independent artists can now use its music video delivery service DistroVid to upload unlimited full-length videos to Spotify.
The platform:
DistroVid was launched in 2022.
It lets independent artists upload unlimited music videos to Apple Music, Vevo, Tidal, Boomplay and now Spotify for $99 (or the territory’s equivalent) a year.
Listeners can switch between the audio and video mid-stream.
Music videos on Spotify are in beta for Spotify Premium listeners in 98 markets such as the UK, Japan, Germany, France and South Korea. The service is not yet available in the US or Canada.
Competitive play:
As per Music Business Worldwide, Spotify’s move into music videos is widely seen as an attempt to challenge YouTube.
What they said:
New York City-based hip hop artist Marlon Craft: “As an independent artist, growing my career is all about finding authentic mediums for discovery. DistroVid and the ability to add music videos to Spotify creates an opportunity – if the visuals can live where people discover and listen to the music, it can allow visual art to market the music itself in a way that is super direct and impactful.”
