The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested rising singer d4vd, real name David Burke, on suspicion of murdering 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The 21-year-old is being held without bail, with investigators due to present a case to the District Attorney’s Office on Monday for consideration of charges.
Tragic discovery:
Hernandez’s dismembered and badly decomposed body was found in the trunk of an abandoned Tesla at an LA impound lot last year.
The vehicle was registered to d4vd.
At the time of the discovery D4vd was on a national tour promoting his debut full-length, Withered.
Inland Empire teen Hernandez was first reported missing on April 5, 2024.
Ongoing investigation:
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that d4vd had been under investigation by an LA County grand jury.
The probe was secret, but its existence was revealed on February 25 when d4vd’s mother, father and brother “filed an objection in a Texas court to subpoenas demanding they testify.”
What they said:
Defence lawyers Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter, in a statement: “Let us be clear – the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death. There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed. David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David’s innocence.”
