Avant Gardner Files For Bankruptcy

The event company operates the beleaguered New York nightlife venue, Brooklyn Mirage

Avant Gardner LLC, the New York event company that operates the Brooklyn Mirage, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This comes after months of delays surrounding the Brooklyn Mirage, which has yet to host an event this year.

Chapter 11:

  • AGDP Holding, which owns Avant Gardner LLC, owed $155.3 million to various debtors at the time of filing.

  • The company will auction off its assets as it continues to operate for the time being.

  • A primary lender has dispersed $45.8 million as part of debtor-in-possession financing. This money will also go towards a bid for the assets.

The Brooklyn Mirage in 2025:

  • The Brooklyn Mirage was scheduled to reopen on May 1, 2025, after a significant remodel, but inspectors declined to grant the venue a permit to open.

  • None of the scheduled shows have taken place since then.

  • The Avant Gardner also operates two other venues: Great Hall and King’s Hall. These spaces have hosted events scheduled for the Brooklyn Mirage and will remain open during the Chapter 11 process.

  • Amidst this turmoil, Josh Wyatt stepped down as CEO of Avant Gardner.

  • Gary Richards, who is known for organizing major events such as FriendShip, stepped in as CEO to develop a plan for the venue moving forward.

What they said:

  • Richards: “The Avant Gardner event complex is a truly special music venue that has provided cutting-edge experiences over the years for artists and fans from all around the globe. Everyone I speak to has had the best sets and very special memories at the Brooklyn Mirage. Two months ago, I was brought in as CEO to rebuild the company’s culture and turn the business around. I believe this Chapter 11 restructuring is the most viable path forward — it will allow us to stabilize Avant Gardner and focus on building for the future.”
