Content ID
Content ID is a digital fingerprinting system developed by Google¹ that is used to identify and manage copyrighted material on YouTube. Videos uploaded to YouTube are scanned and compared against a database of audio and video files registered with Content ID by content owners². In the music industry, this system allows rights holders to automatically find user-generated content that incorporates their music, and then choose to monetize, track, or block that content.
