The United Kingdom’s competition regulator, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), is preparing a possible investigation into Live Nation Entertainment and its power across the country’s live music industry, as per The Times.
Laying the groundwork:
The Times is reporting that the CMA has begun contacting industry figures to arrange meetings – including critics of Live Nation.
The publication claims the outreach is the clearest sign yet that the CMA could formally scrutinize Live Nation’s integrated live entertainment business.
The CMA declined to confirm the meetings when approached by TicketNews.
Music Business Worldwide reports that a CMA spokesperson did, however, say the organization is “giving active and careful consideration to undertaking markets work in this area.”
No formal investigation has been announced.
Parliamentary report:
In May, the House of Commons Business and Trade Committee urged the CMA to launch a full market investigation into live music before the end of 2026, citing it had uncovered a “climate of fear” in the sector.
US investigation:
Live Nation is currently contesting a US antitrust verdict.
