PRS for Music Paid Out a Record-Breaking £100M+ in Live Revenue in 2025

Represents a 13.2% increase on the year prior

Performing rights management organization PRS for Music, which represents the rights of over 190,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers, has released its 2025 financials, revealing a record-breaking year in live revenue collections.

110-year first:

  • Revenue collected from live music generated £101.4 million ($136.7 million), the first time it’s surpassed £100 million in PRS’s 110-year history.

  • This represents a 13.2% increase on 2024’s payouts.

  • Overall revenues from public performance, including live and music played or performed in public (ie. shops, restaurants, bars etc), hit £313.4 million ($422.6 million), a 9.1% YoY bump.

Other highlights:

  • PRS for Music paid out against 7.8 million unique works in 2025, an increase of 41% since 2020.

  • Royalty collections increased by 7.7% on the previous year to £1.24 billion ($1.67 billion).

  • Streaming contributed £351.4 million ($473.8 million) of the royalties collected, up 11.8% on 2024.

  • Video-on-Demand revenue increased 20.1% YoY to £77.2 million ($104.1 million).

  • Collectively, PRS collected £447.2 million ($603 million) in online royalties, up 9.6% on 2024.

  • PRS paid out £1.07 billion ($1.44 billion) to rightsholders in 2025, a 4.9% increase on 2024.

  • 4,451 songwriters and composers were paid for the first time.
