Primary Wave Signs Music Rights Deal With Peter Green’s Estate
The Fleetwood Mac founder penned songs such as “Black Magic Woman” and “Albatross”
Music publisher Primary Wave has signed a rights deal with the Estate of Peter Green, the British singer-songwriter and guitarist who founded Fleetwood Mac, originally known as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac.
The terms:
Primary Wave will acquire the assets in Green’s Rattlesnake music publishing catalog.
It also acquires Green’s interest in all compositions written by him, as well as certain recordings.
Fleetwood Mac songs such as “Albatross” (the band’s only Number 1 hit in the UK), “Black Magic Woman” (later made popular by Santana) and “Oh Well” are included in the deal, amongst others.
About Green:
Green founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967, two years after meeting drummer Mick Fleetwood.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
In addition to the aforementioned songs, he also wrote “Man of the World” and “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown).”
Rolling Stone ranked him at Number 58 in its list of the ‘100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time.’
What they said:
Primary Wave’s Robin Godfrey Cass: “When I look at the definition of a musical genius, Peter Green ticks every box. As a musician, songwriter, and founder of Fleetwood Mac, he is an icon. It has been over 60 years...since he began writing his body of legendary songs which are still in use every day. I am ecstatic that the estate has given Primary Wave the reins to continue his amazing legacy.”
