The Fleetwood Mac founder penned songs such as “Black Magic Woman” and “Albatross”

Music publisher Primary Wave has signed a rights deal with the Estate of Peter Green, the British singer-songwriter and guitarist who founded Fleetwood Mac, originally known as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac.

The terms:

  • Primary Wave will acquire the assets in Green’s Rattlesnake music publishing catalog.

  • It also acquires Green’s interest in all compositions written by him, as well as certain recordings.

  • Fleetwood Mac songs such as “Albatross” (the band’s only Number 1 hit in the UK), “Black Magic Woman” (later made popular by Santana) and “Oh Well” are included in the deal, amongst others.

About Green:

  • Green founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967, two years after meeting drummer Mick Fleetwood.

  • He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

  • In addition to the aforementioned songs, he also wrote “Man of the World” and “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown).”

  • Rolling Stone ranked him at Number 58 in its list of the ‘100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time.’

What they said:

  • Primary Wave’s Robin Godfrey Cass: “When I look at the definition of a musical genius, Peter Green ticks every box. As a musician, songwriter, and founder of Fleetwood Mac, he is an icon. It has been over 60 years...since he began writing his body of legendary songs which are still in use every day. I am ecstatic that the estate has given Primary Wave the reins to continue his amazing legacy.”
