Post Malone, ZAYN Tours Hit by Cancellations

Tour pullbacks raise demand questions

Post Malone and former One Direction vocalist ZAYN (AKA Zayn Malik) are the latest artists to cancel tour dates, with the former citing the need to work on his album, and the latter to concentrate on his health.

Why it matters:

  • Though both artists cite legitimate reasons for canceling the dates, Variety reports ticket sales had been soft.

  • The same was true of Meghan Trainor, who in April canceled her tour citing the need to spend time with her growing family.

Scaling back:

  • Malone has called off the first six dates of his “Big Ass Stadium 2” tour with Jelly Roll.

  • He announced on social media he would dedicate the time to completing his upcoming 40-track album, The Eternal Buzz, before commencing the remainder of the tour on June 9.

  • ZAYN canceled his entire US tour in support of recent album Konnakol, citing unspecified health issues.

  • Shows in Dublin and Birmingham in the UK have also been canceled.

  • Notably his Mexico and other UK dates, scheduled to take place prior to the US run, are going ahead.

What they said:

  • Post Malone: “Looking at the upcoming schedule after Stagecoach, I came to the realization that what we’re trying to do, and what’s possible, isn’t really lining up. The truth is, I promised y’all beautiful people new music, and I don’t have the time to finish it before tour starts. We ain’t ready for tour just yet, so I’m making the decision to push the tour back about 3 weeks to get this music done.”

  • ZAYN: “I’ve had to take another look at my schedule for the months ahead and have to reduce the number of shows on the KONNAKOL Tour. I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon. Big Love, Z”
