MTV has closed several of its music-only channels across the UK, Australia, Poland, France, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Brazil.
End of an Era:
The stations impacted are MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live.
The flagship MTV channel will continue in these territories, but with a focus on reality television and pop culture programming.
The US versions of these channels will reportedly not be impacted.
MTV Music ended its broadcast with The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star,” which was the first video ever played on MTV US upon its 1981 launch.
Cost-cutting:
As per the BBC, the move is part of the company’s bid to save more than $500 million across its global portfolio.
