Missy Elliot has officially come to a settlement in her long-running copyright lawsuit against producer Terry Williams. This conclusion came just before the case was going to a jury trial.
The lawsuit:
Williams filed the lawsuit, officially claiming he co-wrote four of Elliot’s songs from the 1990s without receiving credit.
The songs in question were from her time in the rap group Sista, specifically the 1994 album, 4 All the Sistas Around Da World.
Mike Trauben, attorney for Missy Elliott, stated that Williams received “a small sum” from Elliot to purchase beats that he wrote.
Elliot claims she didn’t meet Williams until after the album was complete and delivered to Elektra Records.
Williams and Elliot reached a confidential settlement.
Williams also named Timbaland, who produced the album, along with Elektra, Atlantic Records, Warner Music Group, and Reservoir Media as defendants.
