IFPI Welcomes Launch of Operation LUMEN to Curb Copyright Infringement in LATAM Region

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the global music industry advocacy organization, has put out a statement welcoming the launch of Operation LUMEN. This program combines the efforts of five Latin American countries to disrupt pirate sites and other copyright infringement activities throughout the region.

The details:

• Peru’s consumer rights protection agency INDECOPI first introduced Operation LUMEN.

• Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador are contributing to the initiative.

• The operation is targeting 300 domains associated with copyright infringement.

• Internet service providers will block the illicit domains.

• These websites brought in 15 million visitors per month over the past year.

• A 2025 study by IFPI found that efforts similar to Operation Lumen led to a 15 to 50% increase in traffic to legal music services.
