Iconic Festival Bluesfest Canceled Just Weeks Before Start
The liquidators have been called in
Long-running Australian festival Bluesfest has canceled its 2026 event, weeks before it was scheduled to begin on April 2.
Costs and logistics:
In a statement, organizers attributed the cancelation to “rising production, logistics, insurance and touring costs, together with a more challenging environment for major live events.”
It says a liquidator has been appointed to manage all financial matters, including vendor and partner obligations.
Worryingly, it says ticket holders will be contacted by the liquidator regarding “potential refund arrangements,” suggesting refunds are not a given.
The lineup:
This year’s event was to be headlined by reformed New Zealand outfit Split Enz and Australian metalcore act Parkway Drive, alongside Earth, Wind & Fire, Erykah Badu, Buddy Guy, The Black Crowes, Counting Crows, The Pogues, Marcus King Band, and many more.
It was to run from April 2 to April 5 in Byron Bay, on Australia's east coast.
History:
Founded in 1990, this would have been Bluesfest’s 37th annual event.
Previous headliners include Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Kendrick Lamar, The Doobie Brothers, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Iggy Pop, Mavis Staples, and Midnight Oil.
