‘Dolly Parton International Airport’ Closer to Becoming a Reality

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) has voted 6-0 in favor of renaming Nashville’s airport after Dolly Parton.

Wider support:

• In addition to the MNAA’s backing, more than 175,000 people have signed a Change.org petition supporting a name change.

• Also in favor are Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell.

What’s in a name?

• A potential new name has not yet been determined.

• Regardless of the proposed rebranding, the airport’s BNE three-letter designation would remain unchanged.

Potential hurdle:

• As Variety points out, Parton previously declined a state legislator’s proposal to place a statue of her in front of the Tennessee Capitol, suggesting her Estate may be selective about accepting governmental honors.

• Parton’s Estate is yet to comment.
