Believe Partners with Google to Bring 'Flow Music' AI Tool to Artists

Collaboration pairs Flow Music access with artist feedback

Believe has partnered with Google to give artists, songwriters and producers across Believe and TuneCore access to the tech giant’s AI music creation platform, Google Flow Music (formerly known as ProducerAI).

The deal:

  • In a blog post by Product Manager Seth Forsgren, he explains the tool is designed to support the artists’ original work as a “creative collaborator,” helping with lyrics, ideating new melodies or genres and creating new instruments.

  • Crucially, Google doesn’t claim ownership of the original content generated with Flow Music.

  • In return, Believe and TuneCore will select a group of artists and producers to meet weekly with Flow Music’s product team to share feedback and influence its direction.

Responsible development:

  • Google Flow is powered by Lyria 3 Pro, which was built to understand musical composition.

  • In his post, Forsgren reiterates earlier company messaging around the training of Lyria 3 Pro, stating it uses “materials that YouTube and Google has a right to use” under its terms of service, partner agreements and applicable law.

  • This is currently being challenged by a group of independent musicians, who in March filed a lawsuit against Google alleging it trained Lyria 3 on copyrighted YouTube recordings without permission or compensation.
