Shira Perlmutter is an American attorney and law professor who served as the 14th Register of Copyrights and Director of the U.S. Copyright Office from 2020-2025. Born in 1956, she holds degrees from Harvard and University of Pennsylvania Law School. Her career spans music industry legal policy, including roles as Executive Vice President for Global Legal Policy at IFPI and positions at Time Warner and USPTO.
