Warner Music India has made a series of catalog acquisitions and strategic partnerships to expand its business in Southern India. These moves focus on bringing more Tamil and Malayalam music under its purview.
The details:
Warner has acquired the Gemini Music catalog, which includes a series of Tamil film soundtracks.
It also signed an exclusive music deal with filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon to cover his past and future releases. He’s made film music and released music independently.
Malayalam film production company and distributor Magic Frames has partnered with the label as well.
That catalog includes over 500 tracks with more on the way. Warner will release all future music and music videos running through the production company.
What they said:
Jay Mehta, Managing Director, Recorded Music and Publishing, India and SAARC: “South India’s vibrant regional markets are central to building a sustainable, future-forward music business in India. By combining marquee catalogue acquisitions with long-term creative partnerships, we’re strengthening our regional foundation while leveraging Warner Music’s global network to take these incredible soundtracks and artists to the world.”
Ashok Parwani, Head of Music for South India, Warner Music India: “South Indian film music has a lasting cultural impact, with soundtracks that continue to find new audiences well beyond their original release. These partnerships allow us to build on that enduring appeal while investing in the next generation of releases, creating a stronger and more expansive repertoire across the region.”
