Spotify is Giving Parents Their Music Taste Back
Users can now stop ‘Frozen’ from hijacking their recommendations – and their Wrapped
Slayer fans with children, rejoice: you need never have kids’ music infiltrate your Spotify recommendations again, nor will it sully your none-more-metal end-of-year Wrapped playlist.
What’s happening:
Recognizing that the music parents play their young children is unlikely to reflect their personal listening tastes, Spotify has rolled out a toggle in Settings allowing users to exclude kids’ and family music from their taste profile.
How it works:
The one-tap feature is rolling out globally on mobile to Free and Premium users.
It includes kids’ and family music in users' taste profile by default but can be turned off.
Doing so removes the influence of such music on the listening recommendations users receive from Spotify, though they can still search for, listen to, and build playlists of kids’ and family music.
It also applies retroactively, meaning kids’ music that’s already been listened to won’t count toward a user’s Wrapped.
