Splice Rolls Out AI Tools That Pay Sample Creators on Usage

Music creation platform Splice has launched three new AI-powered tools: Variations, Craft and Magic Fit.

Why it matters:

• The AI-generated tools allow users to reimagine the more than three million human-made, licensed samples on the platform, while ensuring every sound is traceable to its original creator.

• Said creators are then compensated fairly for their use.

• The launch is part of Splice’s AI-focused expansion, as evidenced by its January acquisition of AI-powered voice production platform Kits AI, and 2025 announcement of a collaboration with Universal Music Group to pursue the “next generation of AI-powered music creation tools for artists.”

The tools:

• Variations allows users to create new versions of any Splice sample, adjusting structure, key and BPM, while preserving the core characteristics of the original.

• The original creator is compensated whenever their sound is used as a source, and each time a variation is downloaded, as per Music Business Worldwide.

• Craft, a new feature in Splice’s INSTRUMENT plugin, transforms samples into fully playable instruments.

• Magic Fit adapts sounds to match the harmonic and rhythmic context of a producer’s session, and will be released in summer.
