Openplay Unveils Connect App Exchange for B2B Music Services

Aims to bring structure to the fragmented music services economy

Rights management platform OpenPlay has announced the commercial launch of the OpenPlay Connect App Exchange, a fully transactional B2B marketplace it says will bring “structure, interoperability, and standardized transactions to a historically fragmented music services economy.”

Why it matters:

  • OpenPlay says Connect addresses existing challenges in the global music economy, such as tens of billions of dollars in rights and services being coordinated through spreadsheets, PDFs and fragmented email chains.

  • This can lead to delivery bottlenecks, rights conflicts, monetization friction and rising operational costs.

  • By embedding service providers directly into a single app-based marketplace, it enables publishers and labels to engage in commercial engagements inside what it calls “a trusted, standardized framework supporting structured workflows, data exchange, reporting, and financial settlement.”

  • Distributors, labels and publishers operating on OpenPlay’s catalog and rights management platform can use Connect to seamlessly transact, execute commercial engagements and exchange data.

  • Providers using OpenPlay include beatBread, Beatdapp, Cosynd, FaroLatino, Habitat Financial, Harmix, LyricFind, Matter Collective, Muserk, Music Story, Musixmatch, MySeat Media, Vobile, and Sureel.ai.

Roll-out:

  • Connect has launched within OpenPlay’s label and publisher community.

  • It will expand later in the year, with distributors and administrators globally being able to deploy white-label, custom branded versions of Connect App Exchange.

Recent wins:

  • It’s been a big 12 months for OpenPlay.

  • In March 2025 it unveiled OpenPlay Reach, supporting seamless packaging and real-time delivery of music and video releases to dozens of the industry’s major and independent distributors and supply chains.

  • Last September it closed a multi-million-dollar strategic investment round led by industry veteran Tracy Maddux.

What they said:

  • Edward Ginis, Co-Founder of OpenPlay: “Connect will become the trusted B2B exchange for the global music ecosystem. Its impact extends beyond individual rightsholders, it strengthens collaboration, streamlines data flows, and lowers barriers to innovation across the sector. With our experience in rights management, APIs, and data interoperability, OpenPlay is uniquely positioned to operate this exchange. This launch marks a major step forward in building a more efficient and connected music business.”
