GasLab Raises $1M to Compensate Artists for AI Training Data

The platform was created by DJ and producer Reinier Zonneveld

GasLab (Generative AI Solutions Lab), a new generative AI music platform designed to attribute and compensate artists whose music contributes to AI-generated tracks, has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding.

How it works:

  • Artists and labels that allow their music to be used in training GasLab’s AI model will be able to see how their work helped shape each generated track, and receive compensation.

  • The platform’s proprietary attribution technology, called the Digital Notary, identifies the music and rights holders that contribute to each generated track.

  • Creators can see which tracks and artists helped shape their generated songs.

  • Contributing artists and rights holders can share in revenue generated through subscriptions and releases.

Investment:

  • Investors include Eric Demuth, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Bitpanda, and Bas Beerens, Founder of WeTransfer, alongside other European entrepreneurs.

  • The funding will support GasLab’s next phase of development.

Backstory:

  • GasLab was created by Reinier Zonneveld, who ranks at 21 in 2026’s DJ Mag Global Top 100.

  • He is also the founder and owner of record label Filth on Acid.

  • He and his business partner Cas Luuring began working with machine learning eight years ago, leading to the development of his AI model, R2, trained on his own catalog.

Early access:

  • Those interested in creating music on GasLab can join the guest list here for private testing invites, ahead of a later public launch.

What they said:

  • Reinier Zonneveld, Co-Founder, GasLab: “First and foremost I am a musician and I believe it must always pay to be an artist. The current state of generative AI has a major flaw: It takes from artists but gives nothing back. This is a problem that has to be solved if we want there to be any semblance of a creative industry in the future. So, I set out to solve it. And that's how we came up with GasLab.”
