
Def Jam Recordings, the iconic hip-hop label and Universal Music Group (UMG) subsidiary, has announced the launch of Def Jam Recordings North Africa. This new imprint will focus on artists in the Maghreb region, which includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Mauritania.
First signings:
Initial signings include Najm, SHR, and Aujiss.
The label will also work with Moroccan producers Oldygothesound, Bayadis, and Nouvo.

Def Jam Recordings North Africa is officially part of Universal Music Morocco & North Africa.
The new headquarters will be in Casablanca.
This move expands UMG’s presence in the MENA region, which saw a revenue growth of 15.2% in 2025 according to data from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.
Def Jam recently expanded into Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and China.
