Boosey & Hawkes Prepares for Major Leadership Shift in 2026

Managing Director Janis Susskind is leaving after 46 years

British classical music publishing company Boosey & Hawkes, which is part of Concord, is preparing for a leadership transition in 2026.

The changes:

  • After 46 years with the company, Managing Director Janis Susskind OBE will leave Boosey & Hawkes.

  • She will be replaced by Senior Vice President Steven Lankenau, who has been with Boosey & Hawkes for 15 years.

  • He will become President on January 1, 2026, and assume full leadership of international operations from July 1.

Centenary celebrations:

  • Boosey & Hawkes will celebrate its centenary in 2030.

  • It’s home to 20,000 works and 5,000 composers, including Béla Bartók, Leonard Bernstein, Benjamin Britten, Igor Stravinsky, John Adams, Unsuk Chin and Steve Reich.

What they said:

  • Janis Susskind: “A few things I’m proud of? Hiring gifted people and enabling them to develop and do sterling work, opening new vistas for our extraordinary composers and earning the trust of performers and music programmers; demonstrating time and again the growth potential of contemporary classical music in today’s world. I am delighted that Steven Lankenau will be carrying the baton forward and I look forward to achieving a smooth transfer over the next six months.”

  • Steven Lankenau: “My love for this music has always come naturally, and I carry that passion forward as I help shepherd this historic publishing house into its next chapter.”
