AWAL Launches in the Middle East
Signs Egyptian artist Wegz and Raad Records
AWAL has launched AWAL Middle East, kicking off with the exclusive signing of multi-platinum Egyptian artist Wegz and Raad Records, the label founded by Wegz, Asem Tag (CEO) and Malik Tag (MD).
The deal:
AWAL Middle East will be headquartered in Dubai in partnership with Sony Music Middle East.
Sony Music Middle East A&R Director Issa Outa will head up AWAL Middle East, due to his deep-rooted experience with independent artists in the region.
He will report to Rami Mohsen, Managing Director of Sony Music Middle East, with an added reporting line to Ben Akinbola, AWAL’s Head of Growth, to define and execute AWAL’s strategy in the region.
As per its release, AWAL enters the Middle East “with its commitment to empowering independent artists globally, providing a comprehensive range of services all while artists retain ownership of their masters.”
What they said:
Ben Akinbola: “We couldn’t be more excited to break ground in the Middle East in partnership with Rami, Issa, and the Sony Music team. Middle Eastern culture is undeniably diverse and rich, brimming with a generation of powerful storytellers that have fueled sustained growth in the MENA music market.”
He adds: “Together with Sony Music, AWAL is establishing a home for independent artists that is built on trust, transparency, and full alignment as partners. Kicking off our venture with Wegz and Raad Records, a visionary artist and uncompromising team, is a powerful statement of what's to come.”
