Sony Music Central America & Caribbean has announced a new partnership with Alofoke Music, the label founded by celebrated Dominican radio host and media giant Santiago “Alofoke” Matías. As part of the deal, Sony will distribute all future releases on the label, oversee promotion and marketing, and has acquired a significant percentage of the label’s over 700 songs in its catalog.
Alofoke Media:
Alofoke Music is one arm of Alofoke Media Group, a key platform in globalizing Dominican music.
The company owns Alofoke Radio, 99.3FM, and popular YouTube channels, Alofokeradioshow and AlofokeTVshow, which have over 6 million subscribers combined. These
Sony will leverage these channels as part of the new deal.
What they said:
Matías: “I would describe this partnership as a blessing. Not for Alofoke, but for the Dominican Republic, for the Caribbean, for music, including dembow, merengue, bachata, perico ripiao. All those Dominican rhythms that haven't had exposure. I don't see it as a business because the Dominican Republic is a small country, and we don't have an international platform to support it. Sony Music is providing this entire platform and so many years of experience to such a culturally rich country. They're putting us on the map.”
Melissa Exposito, president of Sony Music CAC: “We are excited to join forces with Alofoke, who is a monumental figure in music and media in the Dominican Republic and beyond. What he represents in terms of community, culture, and talent support aligns perfectly with our vision. This partnership is about amplifying regional voices in key international markets and creating opportunities for emerging artists to shine globally.”
