Sony Music Publishing and Lola Young Initiate Legal Proceedings Against Carter Lang

Sony Music Publishing (SMP) is supporting rising British talent, Lola Young, in a lawsuit against songwriter and producer Carter Lang. This development comes after Lang claimed he should be listed as a songwriter on four of Young’s songs.

The lawsuit:

• The songs Lang is contesting have not been identified as of this writing.

• Young and SMP filed the lawsuit in a London court on October 1.

Background:

• Lang has co-written and co-produced several of Young’s songs on her two most recent albums: I’m Only F\\cking Myself (2025) and This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway (2024). One of Lang’s co-productions and co-writes on the latter is Young’s smash hit, “Messy.”
