Kim Petras Publicly Asks Republic Records to Drop Her

Kim Petras has posted a series of messages on X, calling on Republic Records to release her from her recording contract.

The issue:

• The German-born musician alleges that Republic is refusing to schedule a release date for her upcoming album Detour, which she claims has been finished for six months.

• She also alleges that her collaborators on the record are yet to be paid.

• In one post she writes: “I won a grammy 2 years ago…….. the music is TEA. Still no support. If it’s not a tiktok trend or 80s revival queerbaiting shit these labels have no interest in supporting.”

• In its report, Billboard says it has reached out to Republic for comment but is yet to receive a response.

Better days:

• Petras signed with Republic in 2021.

• In 2023 she became the first openly trans artist to win a GRAMMY for her collaboration with Sam Smith on the track “Unholy.”

• As per Billboard, that year she presented Republic with the Label of the Year award at the publication’s Power 100 party.

What’s next?

• Petras is determined that fans hear her new record as soon as possible, with or without Republic’s support – her final message on X said, “I’m dropping Detour regardless.”
