Former NewJeans Member Danielle Hit With $31M Lawsuit
The band’s label, Ador, is also suing a family member and former label head
Hybe Corporation subsidiary Ador has taken legal action against former NewJeans member Danielle Marsh, an undisclosed family member, and former Ador head and NewJeans founder Min Hee-jin.
Backstory:
This is the latest twist in a year-long dispute in which the K-pop group attempted to break its contract with Ador, alleging workplace hostility and creative sabotage.
In October a South Korean court ruled the contract is valid until 2029.
It was reported soon after that all five members would, as a result, return to the label.
Departure:
On Monday it was announced Ador had terminated Marsh’s contract.
Hybe confirmed to the BBC it is suing Marsh, one of her family members and Min Hee-jin for USD $31 million in damages and a contract break penalty.
Ador alleges the family members and Min “bear significant responsibility” for the fallout between the agency and the group.
It also claimed it was difficult to continue working with Marsh.
NewJeans’ future:
Currently three members have returned to the label, Hanni, Haerin and Hyein.
A fourth member, Minji, is still in negotiations.
