AI Accounts for More Than 50% of New Independently Released Songs in China

As per a report in China’s state-owned People’s Daily Online, approximately 56.9% of independently released new songs in China during Q1 2025 were AI generated.

Why it matters:

• The figure is indicative of what the outlet calls a “sweeping transformation across production, consumption and the broader industrial ecosystem” in the country’s music industry.

Uptake:

• Tencent Music Entertainment Group’s AI song creation system has been utilized by 10 million users for music production, resulting in more than 26 million AI-generated tracks, accumulating over 1 billion plays.

• The report adds that NetEase Cloud Music’s AI music creation platform NetEase Tianyin has produced more than 40,000 original music pieces.

• The China Musical Techno Base, powered by AI technology, has generated cumulative operating revenue of 65.6 billion yuan (approximately USD $9.3 bn) over the past five years.

Education:

• The Central Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Sichuan Conservatory of Music have programs in music and AI, as well as related areas.

Comparison:

• In September Deezer revealed it receives 30,000 AI-generated tracks every day, accounting for 28% of the total daily delivery.
