A2IM Names Ian Harrison as New CEO
Richard James Burgess will leave the post after 10 years
The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM), an organization dedicated to supporting independent labels and musicians, has announced that Ian Harrison, Executive Vice President of Hopeless Records, will take over the position of CEO. Richard James Burgess, who led the organization for over a decade, will be stepping down as of October 1.
Ian Harrison:
Harrison has been a part of Hopeless for over two decades.
During that time, he’s helped the Hopeless Foundation raise $3.5 million.
Harrison has been involved with A2IM since 2012.
Other accolades include serving on the board of Worldwide Independent Network and Music Business Association and being selected as a Billboard Indie Power Players honoree for the past two years.
Richard James Burgess:
Over his decade as CEO of A2IM, the organization grew its membership to over 700 indie labels.
He had a hand in developing A2IM’s Indie Week conference and the Libera Awards, a yearly ceremony that honors indie music achievements.
Under his leadership, A2IM also helped pass national legislation such as the HITS Act.
What they said:
Harrison: “The independent community is stronger and more dynamic than ever, yet also facing accelerating challenges that will test our resilience and adaptability. A2IM exists to ensure our members can grow independently in the face of these changes and thrive on their own terms.”
Burgess: “I am honored to have served this extraordinary community for the past decade, and I could not be more pleased to welcome Ian Harrison as A2IM’s next CEO. Ian’s deep experience and lifelong commitment to independent music position him perfectly to guide A2IM into its next chapter."
